Fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Year B)

^5:1 Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.  ² Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.  ³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.  ⁴ David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.  ⁵ In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah. 

^5:9 So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.  ¹⁰ And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him. 

^2:1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee.  ² And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.  ³ And he said unto me, Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me, even unto this very day.  ⁴ For they are impudent children and stiffhearted. I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD.  ⁵ And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house,) yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. 

^48:1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.  ² Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.  ³ God is known in her palaces for a refuge.  ⁴ For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.  ⁵ They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.  ⁶ Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.  ⁷ Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.  ⁸ As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.  ⁹ We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.  ¹⁰ According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.  ¹¹ Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.  ¹² Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.  ¹³ Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.  ¹⁴ For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. 

^123:1 Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.  ² Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us.  ³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.  ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. 

^12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.  ³ And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)  ⁴ How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.  ⁵ Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.  ⁶ For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.  ⁷ And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.  ⁸ For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.  ⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  ¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. 

^6:1 And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.  ² And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?  ³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.  ⁴ But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.  ⁵ And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.  ⁶ And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.  ⁷ And he called unto him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;  ⁸ And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:  ⁹ But be shod with sandals; and not put on two coats.  ¹⁰ And he said unto them, In what place soever ye enter into an house, there abide till ye depart from that place.  ¹¹ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.  ¹² And they went out, and preached that men should repent.  ¹³ And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
