Search Help
This help explains how the lectionary search page works and how to go about using it; if
you're looking for help on the lectionary itself, and how it works, you should follow the
About Lectionary link at the top of the page.
It is possible to search the lectionary either by service or by date:
- Service - Simply choose the service you wish to read and the lectionary year
(Year A, Year B or Year C) from the upper set of boxes and press the Go
button. The system will automatically find the next date that service will be read
and also display the lectionary for that service. Note that a few services are
particularly rare: for example the next reading of the lectionary for the Ninth
Sunday after Epiphany in Year C will be on Sunday 3rd March, 2052.
- Date - Enter the date for which you would like service information and click
the Find button. If there isn't a service actually on the date you enter
itself, the system will search for the closest service to that date. The correct
lectionary readings for that year will then be displayed.
In some cases there may be more than one service on a particular day, for example, Christmas Day
has a dawn service and also a daytime service. The separate services (if there are any) are linked
above the service title at the top of the page.
Some of the services, particularly those in Ordinary Time, have different choices for some of the
readings. This is explained on the About Lectionary page, for which there is a link at
the top of this page. The texts for alternative readings are displayed as separate columns in the
service readings list, though only one column should be read. Note that (as explained on the
About Lectionary page) in Ordinary Time, there are two options for the First Reading
and the Psalm, which are linked: if the first alternative for the First Reading is read, then the
first option for the Psalm should be read; similarly for the second alternatives.
