Mums and Tots Playgroup
Setting up a playgroup is a great way to bring parents and their children
into the church, as part of the churches out reach into the community.
Below details some of the things to consider before starting a playgroup.
- Children's Workbook/Story Books
- First Aid Kit
- Regular Refreshments
- Playmats
- Toys
- Chairs and Tables
- Member Records
- Fee
- Advertising
First of all a playgroup needs people to come to it. It is important to
access if there is a need and if that need can be met. Are there enough
parents and children willing to come. Are there already playgroups at the
time and day of your playgroup. Consider the following:
- Time of Playgroup - Morning or Afternoon.
- Day - What day of the week would be best attended.
- Numbers - People able to attend and how to advertise.
- Rules and Saftey - Address cards, risk assessment, etc.
- Equipment - Toys, Games, Mats, etc.
After accessing the viablity of the playgroup. It is time to play what will
be available to the parents and children and how the group will be run. If
the group is going to survive, there needs to be enough people to run it that
it will not be cancelled due to illness or holidays. Children need toys
and safe play areas. Consider the following suggestions:
- Plan - Playtime, then Snacktime, Clean up time, Story time, Song time.
- Work Book - Gives children something to take home with them.
- Snacks - Consider allergies and diet needs, parental permission too.
- Songs - Something short for children to remember with actions.
- Cleaning - Picking up the toys and putting them away.
- Stories - Bible stories are normally acceptable.
- Playing - Children should be orginised into groups based on age.
